Club
Dear fellow sailors!
Tallinn Yacht Club is one of Estonia’s oldest and most esteemed yacht clubs. Since 2019, our home port has been Haven Kakumäe, Tallinn’s most modern marina, where our captains’ cabin and sailing school headquarters are located.
In 1910, a group of sea enthusiasts, led by businessman Harry Schröder, decided to establish a yacht club specifically for Estonian sailors. From the very beginning, the club’s constitution clearly stated its purpose: to promote sailing and motor yachting. Now, more than a century later, we remain dedicated to passing down Estonia’s maritime traditions from generation to generation. We share decades of seafaring experience with our members and strive to inspire young people to take up sailing.
Today, Tallinn Yacht Club consists mainly of yacht and motorboat owners, as well as competitive sailors, coaches, judges, and race officials. However, our doors are open to all sea lovers who share our values. Instead of asking what personal benefits come with membership, we expect our members to actively contribute their time and resources to maritime and sailing-related activities.
One of TJK’s most important missions is introducing young people to sailing. Established in 2006, the TJK Sailing School, led by sailor Maria Veessaar, has grown into the largest sailing school in Estonia. Today, around 150 young sailors receive beginner and competitive training in Haven Kakumäe, the Tallinn Olympic Sailing Center, and Lohusalu Marina. Over the years, we have introduced thousands of young people to the sea – a huge thanks to all our members who have supported this initiative!
TJK is also an active promoter of competitive sailing in Estonia. Since 2010, we have hosted the TJK Cup in Lohusalu, which has become one of Estonia’s largest international youth sailing competitions and a key event in the Estonian Cup Series. This success is due to the time, expertise, and sponsorship contributions of our dedicated members.
We value strong friendships with both local and international yacht clubs. Among our closest partners are Seattle Yacht Club (USA), Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (Germany), Suomalainen Pursiseura (Finland), Ponta Delgada Yacht Club (Azores), Seychelles Yacht Club (Seychelles) and many others.
If you share our core values, want to pass on your experience to others, or are taking your first steps into sailing, TJK welcomes you. Whether you’re looking to develop your own sailing skills or provide valuable experiences for your children, our club is the perfect place to start. Visit our newly updated website to take your first step into the world of sailing. Welcome to Tallinn Yacht Club!
