Core Values
We continue the traditions of one of Estonia’s oldest yacht clubs, founded in 1910 by eight Tallinn businessmen and restored in 1988 by Ilmar Öpik, Otto-Sven Raud, Arvet Tetsmann, and Feliks Jürna.
Since its founding, the main goal of the Tallinn Yacht Club (TJK) has been to promote sailing and motor yachting. We consider it important to pass down Estonia’s maritime traditions from generation to generation. To this end, TJK members have participated in drafting maritime legislation, valuing simplicity, clarity, and freedom.
We share the understanding that a free sea is a fundamental value of a free nation and state. Through our activities, we contribute to preserving these freedoms. TJK’s operations were suspended from 1944 to 1988 due to occupation.
Our principle is to give rather than ask what we gain from being a member of TJK. We expect our members to invest their time and resources in activities related to the sea and sailing.
We help introduce young people to the sea and sailing. Founded in 2006, the Tallinn Yacht Club Sailing School is now the largest in Estonia.
We invest in sailing as a competitive sport. Since 2001, TJK has organized the Tallinn Yacht Club Cup in Lohusalu, which has grown into an international youth competition and one of the stages of the Estonian Cup.
We support Estonia’s top sailors across generations, including Deniss Karpak, Karl-Martin Rammo, Anna Pohlak/Kula, Ingrid Puusta, and Henri and Juuso Kristjan Roihu.
We advocate for the development of small harbors suitable for yachts and motorboats. Many of our club members personally contribute to harbor development. TJK’s home harbors include Lohusalu, Tallinn Old Harbor, Kakumäe, and Haapsalu Grand Holm Marina.
We value spending leisure time at sea. TJK members are active seafarers. Through joint squadron voyages, we have sailed along the coasts of Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Latvia, and Lithuania. Many club members’ boats are permanently in the Mediterranean, and some have even ventured into the Pacific Ocean.
We share the years of experience our club members have gained at sea. This knowledge is unique and invaluable to those just beginning their journeys on sailing or motorboats. TJK also organizes small craft skipper courses every year.
The TJK emblem on the stern flag is a recognition for those who share these values and personally contribute to the promotion of seafaring.
