Introduction to the Club Evening:
Solo sailor Anna-Liisa Talts is aiming to become the first Estonian to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 2025 as part of the Mini Transat race aboard her 6.5-meter yacht, “Nolita”.
The Mini Transat is a solo transatlantic race that begins in France and ends in the Caribbean, taking two to three weeks to complete. The competing yachts, just 6.5 meters long, must comply with the strict safety regulations of the Mini Class—often compared to go-karting in Formula racing, as it serves as a launchpad for offshore sailing careers.
What excites Anna-Liisa most about solo sailing is the endless learning process. Every time at sea is a completely new experience, requiring adaptability to unforeseen challenges. A solo sailor cannot specialize in just one field—they must have a broad knowledge base and skills ranging from meteorology and electrical work to repairs, energy management, and nutrition. “I have always loved learning, and the best way to learn is by tackling challenges—which solo sailing certainly provides in abundance.”
