Tallinn Race summary

Tallinn Race summary

As part of The Tall Ship Races Tallinn program, the spectacular Tallinn Race regatta took place, a tradition since 2010, organized by the Tallinn Yacht Club.

This year, the racecourse was brought right up to the waterfront, allowing for an up-close viewing experience. Club members and young or former sailors provided live commentary, and we engaged the audience even further through social media with live interviews from the finish line.

The regatta primarily featured young sailors from the TJK Sailing School competing in double-handed classes RS Feva, 29er, and 49er. In addition, beginner sailors raced in the Optimist class, and para sailors competed in the Hansa 303 class—bringing the total number of participants to 61 athletes.

The most exciting aspect of the regatta was undoubtedly its innovative format, which kept the competition intense all the way to the final showdown. Each day functioned as a separate mini-regatta, with the combined results counting as a single race towards the overall standings. The winner of the final Super Final was crowned the overall regatta champion, while placements from second place onward were determined by the cumulative results of all race days. This format provided both competitors and spectators with extra motivation to give their absolute best at all times.

The weather initially greeted us with rain and wind, but with each passing day, warm summer conditions got closer. On the final day, we first enjoyed sunshine and calm waters before getting down to racing.
